Scorchers vs Stars Tips, Preview & Prediction
The Stars will be out to make it three wins from three to launch the 2020/21 Big Bash season when they meet the Scorchers in Tasmania on Wednesday night.
After beating the Heat by six wickets in their opening game, the Stars were too good for the Thunder in the nation’s capital on the weekend, winning by 22 runs.
Adam Zampa was Man of the Match in a tremendous performance that saw the International spinner take two wickets and concede just 10 runs from his four overs.
Debutant Liam Hatcher was also impressive with the ball, taking 3-28 and was even on a hat-trick at one stage.
Marcus Stoinis bounced back from his disappointing opening innings against Brisbane to blast 61 off 37 deliveries to immediately propel his team to the front foot, while Glenn Maxwell again provided an explosive cameo, firing 39 runs off 29.
Meanwhile, the Scorchers were never really in the hunt in their opener against the Renegades on Saturday night, falling by seven wickets.
Electing to bat first, the Scorchers’ innings never got going as their top three batsman – Josh Inglis, Colin Munro and Joe Clark – were sent back to the sheds within the first three overs.
Ashton Turner (24) and Aaron Hardie (33) did their best to get the Scorchers to a respectable score of 130, but ultimately the damage was done and the Renegades had no trouble chasing down the total with 21 balls to spare.
The Scorchers will now have their work cut out for them if they are to avoid back-to-back defeats, with the Stars looking extremely dangerous in their first two outings. If Stoinis and Maxwell can continue from where they left off against the Thunder and Zampa continues to shine with the ball, then the Stars will be hard to stop.
