After the worst start to the season possible against the Sydney Sixers, the Stars have won their previous two matches, both coming against the Sydney Thunder to move into third on the ladder.

The Stars bowled quite well to start the match but leaked runs towards the end of the innings as Alex Ross provided a game-saving innings. Nevertheless, it was an all-round effort with the bat, but new signing Andre Russell’s 42* (21) was enough to give him the ‘Player of the Match’.

They will be keen to avenge their 152 loss on the opening day of the season against the Sixers, and they are in much better shape to do so. David Hussey’s side holds the home advantage but have also added some international talent since then.

Meanwhile, the Sixers were humbled, suffering their first defeat of the season against the Hurricanes by 44 runs.

Hobart smashed their third-highest ever total past Sydney, and despite Josh Philippe’s quickfire 72, the total was too great to chase down. However, they do have an outstanding recent record against the Stars, winning the last six encounters.

Considering the Stars only average 120 against the Sixers when batting second (60 less than batting first), the reigning champions may look to bat first if they win the toss and set the tone.

Although the Melbourne Stars were embarrassed against the Sixers to kick off BBL 11, I have faith that they will turn that result around at the MCG on Wednesday night.
