Renegades vs Thunder Tips, Preview & Prediction
The first meeting between the Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Thunder was one-sided as the Thunder hammered their opposition by 129 runs. Sydney batted first making 8/209 off their 20 overs with Oliver Davies top scoring with 48 runs from 23 balls. Six batsmen scored 20 or more for the Thunder.
Set a virtually impossible target, the Renegades didn’t hang around as they were bowled out for 80 runs in 12.2 overs. Only two batsmen scored double figures. Tanveer Sangha claimed 4/14 off 3.2 overs. Chris Green was another standout with 2/7 off his two overs.
Following that humiliating defeat, the Renegades gave a good account of themselves against the defending champions. It took 19.5 overs for the Sydney Sixers to reach the target of 169.
Batting first, the Renegades posted a respectable 6/168 with openers Shaun Marsh and Aaron Finch scoring 67 and 39 respectively. The Renegades looked the likely winner until Jason Holder smashed 33 not out from 18 deliveries to help the Sixers win by two wickets. Kane Richardson took 2/21 from four overs and Imad Wasim claimed 2/20 off his four overs. Will Sutherland is the bowler that will have nightmares about the match after conceding 57 runs off 3.5 overs.
T20 cricket is a funny format of the game and teams can quickly show their best and worse within a short space of time. In saying that, the Renegades have been bowled out for 60 and 80 so far this BBL season. The edge clearly has to lie with the Thunder who sit second on the ladder with four wins and a loss. The Renegades have a mirror record to that as they sit in seventh place.
The Thunder should prove too good for the Renegades and can notch a fifth-straight victory.
Captain Aaron Finch has been consistent for the Renegades with scores of 35, 12, 20 and 39. He looks ready to make a big score and I think he can top score for the Renegades.
Tanveer Sangha has picked up nine wickets for the Thunder from five matches this season and the 19-year-old leggie took 4/14 against the Renegades last time picking up the key wickets of Finch, Beau Webster and Mohammad Nabi. Looks a strong chance to be the Thunder’s leading wicket taker.
