The Perth Scorchers ensured the top spot on the ladder with a bit of breathing room after downing the reigning champions by 10 runs in an entertaining contest.

They looked destined to post a mediocre score, but Aaron Hardie steadied the ship with some powerful hitting at the end of the innings to lead his side to 8/143.

Andrew Tye has been labelled as the best short-format bowler in the game, and he’s backed it up once again this season, leading the competition for wickets taken.

Meanwhile, the Sydney Thunder made it three wins on the trot for the first time in almost two years, cruising past the Strikers by 28 runs. They also passed Adelaide by 22 runs and this week’s opponent by 34 runs.

There were plenty of positives to take from their triumph over the Strikers. Opening batter Matthew Gilkes seems to have hit form after a superb knock of 93.

However, the biggest story to come out of Sunday night was young pace bowler Muhammad Hasnain. Hasnain had figures of 3-0 after his first over on debut, knocking over Matt Short, Jake Weatherald and Jonathan Wells.

Although the Thunder caused an upset against the Perth Scorchers towards the end of the last year, I don’t see them repeating that feat at Metricon Stadium on Thursday night.
