Jan Blachowicz vs Israel Adesanya Tips, Predictions and Preview

The stakes are high on Sunday as UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz looks to start off his title reign by being the first man to defeat Israel Adesanya who boasts a perfect professional record 20 wins and no losses. Adesanya will look to become the fifth person to hold two titles in different weight classes in the UFC’s history.

To quote Conor McGregor, “Precision beats power and timing beats speed.” Those words ring true in this fight as Adesanya will use precise striking and timing to try and pick apart the Light Heavyweight champion. He likes to hit his opponent and avoid being hit, which will be important as Adesanya steps up from the Middleweight division to tackle Light Heavyweight.

Blachowicz isn’t a knockout artist but he is likely to be the heaviest hitter that Adesanya has faced and the champ has knocked out Luke Rockhold, Corey Anderson and Dominick Reyes in three of his last four fights. The concern is that Blachowicz can be somewhat flat-footed as he looks to unload with power strikes, but that’s not going to be effective against Adesanya who will avoid those exchanges.

Adesanya uses excellent kicking technique to keep his opponents at range. Despite stepping up a weight class, due to his length, Adesanya is the taller man with a slight two-inch reach advantage. Throw in Adesanya’s effective striking landing 4.1 significant strikes per minute and only absorbing 2.33 in return, and you can see why the New Zealander is unbeaten through 20 fights to date.

Things will get interesting if Blachowicz gets his hands on Adesanya and taking him down to the mat would have to favour Blachowicz who boasts nine submission victories in his career from 27 career wins.

‘The Last Stylebender’ will use his footwork and reach to walk away with a second title. Adesanya stopped Paulo Costa within two rounds and stopped Robert Whittaker in the second round to win the Middleweight title in 2019. He looks too good for Blachowicz and can finish the champion to make an emphatic statement in the UFC on Sunday.

The co-main event sees UFC Women’s Featherweight champion Amanda Nunes defend her belt against Australian contender Megan Anderson. Nunes is one of the greatest of all time and will have no trouble securing another successful title defence.

UFC Bantamweight champion Petr Yan will also defend his strap against Aljamain Sterling in a fight that looks to be a coin flip.
