Deiveson Figueiredo vs Alex Perez Tips, Predictions & Preview

Arriving on the scene in 2017, Deiveson Figueiredo immediately made an impact on the Flyweight division with four-straight wins, three of them stoppages. That streak was stopped by Jussier Formiga in March 2019; in fact, that is Figueiredo’s only career loss to date.

After that loss, Figueiredo defeated Alexandre Pantoja by decision and then submitted Tim Elliot with a guillotine choke. That win gave him a crack at the vacant Flyweight belt in February of this year. Despite a second-round TKO win over Joseph Benavidez, the belt wouldn’t be around his waist as he missed weight.

In the second fight with Benavidez, once again for the vacant title, Figueiredo would make short work of his opponent with a first-round rear-naked choke that put Benavidez to sleep.

Standing in his way of a successful title retain is Alex Perez. The 28-year-old Californian earned a shot in the UFC by recording a first-round stoppage on Dana White’s Contender Series. Perez would win three-straight fights in the UFC before Benavidez would hand Perez a first-round loss via TKO.

Perez then bounced back to get the better of Mark De La Rosa in a Bantamweight bout. Returning to the Flyweight division for his next fight, Perez needed just two minutes and 33 seconds as an arm-triangle submission forced Jordan Espinosa to call it quits. In his latest fight back in June, Perez would chop down Formiga to win via TKO from leg kicks at UFC 250.

Can Perez make it four-straight wins and dethrone Figueiredo? Our answer is no. Figueiredo was unstoppable against Benavidez in both fights. Perez on the other hand has suffered four stoppage losses with three of them via submission. Benavidez hurt Perez and finished the fight early and the champion can do the same in this bout. He is likely to hurt Perez early in the fight and will be keen to finish him off as early as possible. Figueiredo has finished 16 of his 19 opponents when victorious and he can add Perez to that tally after this fight.
