Broncos vs Bulldogs Preview & Prediction

We may only be six rounds into the season, but it’s shaping as a must-win clash for the Broncos and Bulldogs as two of the competition’s resident battlers square off at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.

Both sides promised to deliver improved results in 2022 after some big-name signings in the off-season, with Adam Reynolds and Kurt Capewell joining the Broncos and the likes of Matt Burton, Josh Addo-Carr and Tevita Pangai Jr moving to the Dogs.

However, the Broncos and Bulldogs sit 14th and 16th on the ladder after six rounds – and another defeat here would make it almost impossible to make the top eight, even at this early stage of the season.

Brisbane started the season with a bang, beating the Rabbitohs and the Bulldogs, but they’ve slipped back into old habits over the last month, bringing a four-game losing run into this encounter.

Kevin Walters’ side were poor in 13+ defeats to the Cowboys and Warriors, but they did show more heart in losses to the Panthers and Roosters over the last fortnight.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are still struggling considerably in attack, with the arrival of Burton and Addo-Carr failing to deliver immediate points.

Burton’s combination with halfback Kyle Flanagan is still only two weeks old and they’ve been unlucky to play some of the competition’s heavyweights over the last month, which has resulted in a five-game losing streak.

To make matters even worse for the Bulldogs, they’ve seemingly been hit hard by COVID-19 over the last couple of days and could potentially lose several stars for Friday night.

VERDICT:

As mentioned, at the time of writing it appears as if the Dogs are going to lose various players after positive RAT tests, which means they might struggle to field an NRL-standard 17.

If that’s the case, the Broncos will be winning this and most likely winning well. Brisbane have won the last three meetings between the teams in any case, with three of their last four wins over Canterbury coming by 13+ margins.

Brisbane have more points in them and at home with Canterbury missing players, they should prove too strong for the second time this season (Best Broncos -10.5 line odds $2.00 with Neds.)
