Broncos vs Bulldogs Preview and Prediction
The bottom two teams from last season are looking like languishing at the wrong end of the ladder throughout 2021 if things don’t pick up quickly – who will emerge triumphant and build some confidence when the Broncos and Bulldogs clash at Suncorp on Saturday?
Brisbane are a club in shambles. They’ve lost their last 13 straight matches and have absolutely no direction. Their halves can’t lead and their forwards lack punch.
Kevin Walters has inherited a mess of a club and I don’t see how he can improve the Broncos with the roster they’ve got this season.
One positive for Brisbane is that they haven’t been blown away in their first two games this season, going down by eight points to the Eels and 12 points to the Titans.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs have much more upside and potential after some strong recruitment in the off-season, but it’s taking some time for Trent Barrett and his new team to fine-tune their combinations.
Canterbury were unlucky with a lopsided penalty count in their opener against Newcastle and again didn’t receive their first penalty until the second half against the Panthers last week, while they also had a spectacular try disallowed in the first half.
Kyle Flanagan has shown plenty of promise in his first two games and he will be determined to become the dominant halfback Canterbury have craved for the better part of a decade now.
It shapes as an intriguing encounter between two teams desperate for two points. They’ve split their last four meetings at two wins apiece and both teams have barely won in a year, so there’s not much to go on.
As I mentioned before, I believe the Bulldogs have more upside to them and as the underdogs, I’m happy to back them home in a tight and scrappy affair.
Broncos vs Bulldogs Teams
No changes to the Broncos side despite being on a 13-match losing streak.
Canterbury have lost Raymond Faitala-Mariner for the next 20 weeks with a broken foot, with Joe Stimson joining the bench as his replacement.
Tuipulotu Katoa will also play his second NRL game on the wing in place of the suspended Dallin Watene-Zelezniak.
