Broncos vs Titans Preview and Prediction
Gold Coast have well and truly turned the tables on ‘little brothers’ Brisbane over the last few years and will be aiming for their sixth win in the last eight games between the teams on Friday night at Suncorp.
Both teams will be looking to snap respective losing streaks, but the Gold Coast are by far the more promising out of the sides and have genuine ambitions of making the eight this season.
All eyes will be on David Fifita – the ex-Bronco has been one of the best players in the competition across the first seven rounds and will be keen for another big performance against his former side after scoring two tries in the Titans’ 28-16 victory in March.
Fifita has since scored two hat-tricks, including last week in Gold Coast’s 40-30 loss to the Rabbitohs, and is second in the NRL for most tries scored with nine – which is incredible for a second-rower.
Despite the loss to Souths, it was a strong response from the Titans following their dismal 36-0 loss to Manly and they will be confident of returning to the winners circle on Friday night.
The Broncos still haven’t beaten a team in the NRL outside of the Bulldogs since March 2020 and they don’t look like doing it anytime soon after suffering their heaviest defeat in 11 matches last week.
Brisbane were throttled 46-6 by the Eels up in Darwin in their worst performance of the season. It was a concerning step backwards considering they pushed Penrith to the brink the previous week. Brisbane have now failed to score a point in their last four second halves.
Anthony Milford has been named to return after spending the last couple of weeks in Queensland Cup, but it’s unlikely he’ll be able to engineer an upset on Friday night.
Gold Coast have won five of the last seven games between the teams and managed to score 30 points against one of the best teams in the NRL last week. I fully expect the Titans to double down on that Round 2 victory over Brisbane and prevail once again here.
