Brisbane Broncos vs St George Illawarra Dragons Preview & Prediction
The Broncos have been one of the stand-out teams across the first two rounds of the season and they will be looking to make it three wins from three when they host the Dragons at Suncorp on Saturday night.
Brisbane produced an outstanding defensive performance to beat two-time reigning premiers the Panthers on the road in Round 1 before conquering rivals the Cowboys 28-16 last week.
Reece Walsh had a blinder in his debut game for the Broncos, scoring a try, setting up another and saving one at the back, along with creating three line breaks. Walsh’s combination with Ezra Mam was electric and fans will be keen to see what the pair can dish up in this clash.
After fading badly at the end of last season, Broncos fans will settle for nothing less than a spot in the finals this year and early indications suggest Kevin Walters’ side are every bit a premiership contender.
Meanwhile, the Dragons responded strongly to immense pre-season criticism by comfortably dispatching the Titans at home 32-18 last week.
Ben Hunt was the main man for the Dragons last season and the former Bronco was once again instrumental to his team’s success last week.
However, the Dragons face a big step up in class here and their away form has been pretty terrible over the last year or so, with the team losing 14 of their last 15 interstate games.
VERDICT:
The Broncos look in great shape to start the season – they have some of most exciting young backs and forwards in the game and an experienced leader at halfback to guide them around.
The Dragons were good last week, but it was only against the Titans at home, so we’re going to need to see more. These two teams have played out some high-scoring games lately, with six of the last seven producing 46+ points, so we’re backing the Broncos to prevail in an entertaining affair (Best Broncos -4.5 line odds & Over 35.5 points odds $1.83 with Ladbrokes.)
