Broncos vs Dragons Preview & Prediction

An all top eight clash awaits to close out Round 17 at Suncorp as the Broncos and Dragons both target a crucial two points.

Brisbane were on a seven-match winning streak before suffering back-to-back defeats against the Storm and Cowboys to slip to fifth spot on the ladder, while the Dragons are full of confidence having won four of their last five games to climb into eighth.

However, in our eyes, the Dragons haven’t been convincing at all for the bulk of the season and the loss of Ben Hunt to Origin will hurt them.

The Dragons only have one win over a current top eight side all season and let’s not forget they lost to the last-placed Titans at this very ground not too long ago during Magic Round.

Hunt’s leadership and direction is what galvanises the Dragons and they will struggle without their leader on Sunday.

Brisbane also have several key players out, including Kurt Capewell, Selwyn Cobbo, Pat Carrigan, Tom Flegler, Payne Haas and Corey Jensen.

However, this is a game where Adam Reynolds can take control and stamp his authority. Reynolds’ kicking game will need to be on song if the Broncos are to prevail, but these are the types of matches the halfback thrives in.

Brisbane were on a seven-game winning streak before running into Melbourne and North Queensland away, so their confidence shouldn’t be too dented after those defeats.

VERDICT:

The Broncos have won their last four games at Suncorp and Reynolds will be out for a massive game in the absence of various stars around him.

The Dragons have won four of their last five, but they don’t travel well, losing 12 of their last 13 outside of NSW, while they have also defeated just one team in the current top eight all season.

St George Illawarra lost to the Titans at this ground last month, so back Reynolds and the Broncos to prevail in a tight one (Best Broncos H2H odds $1.78 with bet365.)
