Raiders vs Rabbitohs Preview and Prediction
South Sydney look to extend their winning streak to seven matches when they travel to the nation’s capital to face a slumping Canberra Raiders outfit on Thursday night.
After falling in a tight clash to reigning premiers Melbourne in the opening round, the Rabbitohs have been sensational and come into this encounter in third spot on the ladder following six straight wins.
Souths are the second-best attacking side in the competition and were the first to hit 200 points for the season. The Bunnies have scored 26+ points in five of their last six matches and will be confident of racking up another big score here.
Despite losing Latrell Mitchell to suspension, the Rabbitohs delivered another blistering attacking display last week, producing a fantastic comeback to beat the Titans 40-30.
Benji Marshall is proving to be the bargain buy of the season, with the veteran playmaker scoring at least one try in his last two appearances in the starting side.
Meanwhile, the Raiders have been struggling over the last few weeks and are staring down the barrel of a fourth straight defeat on Thursday night.
Two of those defeats came against the competition’s best two sides in Penrith and Parramatta, but last week’s loss to the Cowboys was poor.
Canberra led 24-6 in the opening half and should have coasted to victory, but they let the Cowboys back into the match and failed to score a single point in the second half for a second straight week.
Fatigue might be a factor in Canberra, with Ricky Stuart deciding to rest star forward Josh Papalii for this clash.
These two teams are heading in opposite directions, and while the Raiders should offer a response soon, I don’t see it coming against the Rabbitohs. Canberra have had a tough draw over the last few weeks and if the Rabbitohs maintain their current level, the Green Machine will be heading to a fourth straight defeat.
