Raiders vs Dragons Preview and Prediction

The race for a top eight spot is heating up as the Raiders and Dragons prepare to square off on the Gold Coast on Friday night.

Canberra catapulted themselves into finals contention with a strong last month that has seen them win three of their last four matches – although they did slump to a disappointing loss to the Knights last week.

Ricky Stuart’s side defeated three top eight sides in Manly, Cronulla and Parramatta before that defeat and will be hoping his side can bounce back immediately.

The good news for the Raiders is that they’ve dominated the Dragons throughout their history, winning 21 of the last 27 matches between the teams dating back to decades.

Additionally, the Dragons are free-falling down the ladder and don’t look like turning things around in order to make the finals.

St George Illawarra bring a three-match losing streak into this encounter, with all three coming by 13+ margins – including last week’s woeful 50-14 loss to the Rabbitohs.

To make matters worse, halfback Ben Hunt has a broken arm and will be out of action for at least the next month.

VERDICT:

Neither side is exuding confidence right now, but the Raiders look to be in better shape having won three of their last four.

There’s not much value in backing the Raiders, but we like the Green Machine in the ‘Race to 10 points’ market and into the win considering the Dragons have won the race to 10 points in just five of their 19 games this season (Best Raiders win & first to 10 points odds $1.80 with Sportsbet).
