Canterbury Bulldogs vs Dolphins Preview & Prediction

The Dolphins are tasked with a must-win game if they want to have any chance of making the finals in their debut season when they meet a Bulldogs side who welcome back a host of big names on Sunday.

It’s been a solid inaugural season for the Dolphins, but they haven’t won back-to-back matches since winning three straight to open the year, coming into this clash with five defeats from their last six games.

Last week’s defeat to the Panthers has left the Dolphins in 14th spot on the ladder, four points adrift of the top eight.

If the Dolphins can win this encounter, then an upcoming fixture with the Knights could determine if they are a chance of qualifying for the finals in the last couple of rounds.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs have endured another nightmare season, with rookie coach Cameron Ciraldo struggling in his first year in charge.

To be fair, Canterbury have dealt with tons of injuries all season to star players, with Viliame Kikau sidelined since Round 4 and Josh Addo-Carr playing just 10 games.

Both players are set to return for this encounter, along with halfback Toby Sexton, who was ruled out of last week’s loss to the Panthers with concussion. Jacob Preston and Braidon Burns are also back on deck.

VERDICT

This is the best Bulldogs team on paper since the first few rounds of the season, where they upset the likes of the Storm and Cowboys.

Not saying the Dogs should be favourites, but the Dolphins aren’t great themselves, so they should be confident of getting the job done. We’re going to back the Dogs to at the very least cover a +12.5 line, while we’re expecting plenty of points – Canterbury have conceded 268 over the last six games, while the Dolphins have also been on the wrong end of some big scores recently (Best Bulldogs +12.5 line & Over 40.5 total points odds $1.86 with bet365.)
