Bulldogs vs Dragons Preview & Prediction

The Bulldogs haven’t had many winnable games over the last few years, but this shapes as a great chance to claim two points when they host the Dragons at Belmore on Sunday afternoon.

Canterbury have been an absolute basket case for a few years now and despite various high-profile signings for 2022, things haven’t improved, with Trent Barrett departing as coach after just two wins from 11 games that sees them anchored to the bottom of the ladder.

However, there are some positive signs for the Dogs heading into this showdown. Mick Potter would have been pleased with his team’s second-half fightback last week against the Tigers in his first game as interim coach – and as a former premiership winner with Canterbury, he will get them fired up for a rare game at their traditional home of Belmore.

Josh Addo-Carr, who has found his blistering try-scoring form as of late, returns from illness and will be keen to put on a show. Addo-Carr has enjoyed success against the Dragons in the past, scoring 2+ tries in his last three games against the side.

With the Bulldogs beating the Dragons at least once in nine of the last 10 seasons, it’s a good opportunity for the embattled club to pick up a victory.

Meanwhile, the Dragons bounced back from their Magic Round golden point defeat to the Titans by beating the Warriors for the second time in 2022, prevailing 24-18 last week.

Again, it wasn’t the most convincing of performances, but the Dragons will be happy with the two points as they look to get back into the top eight picture.

Anthony Griffin’s side have won four of their last six games, but three of those were against the lowly Knights, Tigers and Warriors, so they still need big improvement if they are to seriously challenge for the finals.

VERDICT:

Honestly, the Dogs won’t get a better chance for an upset win this season – and perhaps against our better judgement, we’re going to back them home.

Canterbury toppled the Dragons in their last meeting 28-6 and have defeated them at least once in all but one season dating back to 2011. Returning to Belmore on a sunny Sunday afternoon under the tutelage of former player Mick Potter, all the ingredients are there for an old-school Dogs ambush (Best Bulldogs win H2H odds $2.40with Ladbrokes.)
