Cronulla Sharks vs Gold Coast Titans Preview & Prediction

The Sharks will be looking to further consolidate their top eight position when they entertain the Titans in the first game on Friday night.

Cronulla were in danger of crashing out the top eight on the back of three straight defeats, but they bounced back strongly last week, toppling the Rabbitohs 26-16 in Perth.

Craig Fitzgibbon’s side raced out to a 26-0 lead and ultimately held on despite a shaky finish as the Rabbitohs scored 16 straight points.

Fitzgibbon will be keen for his team to go on with it if they get out to a similar lead in this encounter, with the Sharks now just two points behind the fourth-placed Storm. Points differential could also decide who finishes in the top four and top eight this season, so every point counts.

Meanwhile, the Titans were on the wrong end of another tight contest last week, going down 28-18 to the Warriors at home.

That loss all but rules the Titans out of finals contention, with the club coming into this clash having lost five of their last six games.

Gold Coast’s away form is also suspect – they’ve won just two of nine such games this season and they have struggled against the Sharks in recent times.

VERDICT

The Sharks turned their fortunes around last week in style and if they can maintain that level, they should be too strong at home for the Titans, who are poor on the road with just two away wins all season.

Cronulla have covered a -10.5 line in four of their last five wins, with the one miss coming last week when they were winning 26-0 vs Souths. Backing the Sharks to cover here (Best Sharks -10.5 line odds $1.91 with bet365.)
