Titans vs Eels Preview & Prediction

The Eels and Titans clash for the second time in the same season for the first time since 2017 when they meet at Cbus Super Stadium on Saturday night.

Parramatta emerged triumphant by a 32-28 scoreline in the opening round, with a point-scoring blitz in the opening half before three penalty goals secured victory in a low-scoring second stanza.

The Eels have moved on and upwards from that clash, bouncing back from a last-minute loss to the Sharks with some brilliant performances against the Storm and Dragons.

Brad Arthur’s side picked up a golden point win over Melbourne after Ray Stone crossed for a try following Mitch Moses’ field goal hitting the post, while the Eels’ attack was on fire in a 48-14 beatdown of the Dragons last week.

Moses is playing some of the best football of his career at the moment, while Dylan Brown has stepped up big time and finally started utilising his dangerous running game.

Meanwhile, the Titans probably haven’t played as well as they did since that opening round defeat, recording a scrappy win over the Warriors, blowing a 22-point lead against the Raiders and needing a miracle last-minute try to beat the last-placed Tigers.

Defence and inconsistency remains a major issue for the Titans and until they can figure that out, they will usually struggle against the best teams in the competition.

Gold Coast failed to beat a top six team last year and nothing suggests they are able to reverse that trend on Saturday night.

VERDICT:

The Eels have been the best team in the competition over the last fortnight and are deservedly heavy favourites here.

Parramatta have won the last six meetings between the teams and posted 48 points last week against the Dragons. Up against a suspect defence, expect the Eels to pile on more points and come away comfortable winners (Best Eels -7.5 line odds $1.91 with bet365.)
