Titans vs Eels Preview and Prediction

The Titans and Eels square off on Friday night in what will be the first game played inside the newly-formed Queensland bubble.

Both sides are coming off a bye last week, with the Titans snapping a four-game losing streak with a big 44-6 win over the Raiders in their last outing, while the Eels saw their three-game winning run broken with a 13-12 loss to the Panthers.

Mitchell Moses had a chance to win the game for the Eels with a conversion after the siren, but missed it wide. Moses will make his Origin debut this week for NSW and has been named to back up less than 48 hours later.

The Eels have been tracking along nicely all season and head into this encounter in fourth spot on the ladder, but four points behind the Storm, Panthers and Rabbitohs above them.

Parramatta have gained a bit of a reputation of being flat track bullies this season – they usually beat those below them on the ladder, but struggle against their fellow premiership heavyweights. All four of Parramatta’s defeats in 2021 have been against top eight teams.

Meanwhile, the Titans have proven they can score plenty of points, but it’s their defence that needs improvement if they are going to make the top eight.

Gold Coast got that area of their game right in their last match as they crushed Canberra 44-6 – however, they have conceded 36 points or more in seven of their eight defeats.

VERDICT:

Gold Coast are a chance to pull off the upset here, but they are still very unreliable in defence and that’s why we’re hesitant to back them.

Parramatta by contrast have only lost to top eight teams this season and consistently get the job done against teams below them on the ladder.

The Eels have also won the last four meetings between the teams, so we’ll backing Parramatta home in a game that should feature plenty of points (Best Eels win & over 49.5 points odds $2.70 with Sportsbet).
