Gold Coast Titans vs Wests Tigers Preview & Prediction

Languishing at the wrong end of the ladder, it’s a crucial game for the Titans and Tigers when they square off at Cbus Super Stadium on Thursday night.

After a promising start to the season, the Titans come into this encounter having lost their last three matches, dropping to 10th on the ladder.

Defence and inconsistency continue to hurt the Titans – they have conceded 46 points in two of their last three defeats to the Knights and Rabbitohs, while they also blew a 14-0 halftime lead against the Bulldogs.

Gold Coast were up 22-16 at halftime against Souths last week, but couldn’t hold on in the second half, fading badly to lose 46-28.

The Titans have impressed at home lately though, winning five of their last seven games at Cbus Super Stadium, losing only to the high-flying Broncos and Rabbitohs.

Meanwhile, the Tigers suffered a heartbreaking loss last week against the Raiders, recovering from 0-18 down to lead 20-18 before giving away a penalty in the last minute for a field goal charge down attempt that ultimately took out the legs of Jamal Fogarty.

It was a harsh way to lose, but the Tigers were never really in the contest, losing 18-0 before the Raiders were reduced to 12 men and they ended up scoring three tries in four minutes.

Despite that defeat, there’s no doubt the Tigers have improved over the last couple of months, but their away record is still fairly miserable heading into this clash.

VERDICT:

This is the definition of a 50-50 contest between two unreliable and unpredictable teams. We’re going to give the edge to the Titans at home.

The Tigers have won just once outside of NSW since August 2021, while the Titans have won five of their last seven on the Gold Coast. The Titans were controlling the Bunnies last week before falling apart, but the Tigers probably won’t put them under the same amount of pressure.

In between their 66 points against the Cowboys, the Tigers haven’t managed a single point in the first 69 minutes of their other most recent games against Canberra and Souths (Best Titans win H2H odds $1.87 with bet365.)
