Sharks vs Sea Eagles Preview & Prediction

It’s the battle of the beaches to kick off a monster ANZAC weekend of footy on Thursday night as the Sharks and Sea Eagles renew their rivalry at PointsBet Stadium.

Both sides have made impressive starts to the season and are nestled nicely in the top six, with Cronulla putting together a four-game winning streak that was snapped by Melbourne last week and Manly bringing their own four-game winning run into this clash.

The Sharks were arguably the form team of the competition before running into a red-hot and inspired Storm side last week, with Craig Fitzgibbon’s side succumbing 34-18 after threatening early.

Dale Finucane and Braden Hamlin-Uele also suffered injuries to compound the loss, but Cronulla will be confident of an immediate bounce back at home on Thursday night.

With seven wins from their last eight at PointsBet Stadium, the Sharks will be looking to make their home ground a fortress in 2022, with the side already a perfect 3-0 at the venue.

Meanwhile, the Sea Eagles have silenced the doubters that thought they’d crumble without Tom Trbojevic, winning their last four matches to surge up to sixth on the ladder after losing back-to-back to the Panthers and Roosters to open the season.

However, it must be said that Manly haven’t really been tested in that run, playing teams that are all currently outside the top eight in the Bulldogs, Raiders, Knights and Titans.

Cronulla are a genuine premiership contender in 2022 and Manly have fallen apart against the good sides in recent years – will the same ring true on Thursday night?

VERDICT:

Cronulla have been excellent this season and a loss away to Melbourne doesn’t change anything.

The Sharks are 3-0 at home this season and their defence has been outstanding in all of those victories. Manly haven’t been able to beat any side that are likely to play the finals so far this season, so their four-game winning run isn’t all that impressive (yet).

We’re backing the Sharks to bounce back at home and cover the line in the process (Best Sharks -6 line odds $2.o0 with Neds.)
