Newcastle Knights vs Manly Sea Eagles Preview & Prediction
The Knights will be aiming to draw level on points with the Sea Eagles when the two teams clash at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday.
These two teams are meeting for the second time this season after their Round 5 clash ended in a pulsating 32-32 draw in Mudgee.
Newcastle have the big advantage in their second encounter for 2023, with Manly losing Tom Trbojevic and Daly Cherry-Evans to Origin duty.
Two more Trbojevic brothers are also missing with injury, with Jake potentially out for the entire Origin series with a calf tear.
It’s a bit of a momentum halter for the Sea Eagles, who racked up their biggest win of the season last week on the road against the Raiders, prevailing 42-14.
The Knights have lost Tyson Frizell to Origin, but usual Queensland mainstays Dane Gagai and Kalyn Ponga were overlooked, allowing them to line up on Sunday.
Newcastle were no match for the Sharks last week, but will be hoping to replicate their last home game, which resulted in a 46-26 victory over the Titans.
VERDICT:
The Sea Eagles have been decimated by Origin and injuries, so can’t see them winning this one without the Trbojevic brothers and Cherry-Evans.
Expecting plenty of points too, with the last couple of meetings producing 54+.
The Knights are almost full-strength and at home, they should be able to cover a small -6.5 line on their way to victory (Best Knights -6.5 line odds $1.65 with bet365.)
