Knights vs Sea Eagles Preview & Prediction

History is against Manly as they prepare for an away clash with the Knights on Thursday night to open Round 5 action at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Although the Sea Eagles are coming off their best performance of the season after beating the Raiders by 19 points last week, that victory came at a huge cost, with star fullback Tom Trbojevic ruled out for up to the next six weeks.

Manly have an awful record without Turbo, winning just 33 per cent of matches with him on the sidelines since 2019 (compared to winning 75 per cent of games with Tommy T in the line-up).

Having gone 2-2 across the first four rounds, the Sea Eagles have it all to do in order to feature in the top eight over the next month or so.

Meanwhile, the Knights’ fantastic start to the season has come to a halt over the last fortnight, but they have a great chance to get back on track here.

Newcastle stunned the Roosters and crushed the Tigers to fly to the top of the ladder after two rounds. They were then matching the Panthers in the first half before Mitch Barnett’s send-off.

Ever since that moment, the Knights have lost against the Panthers and Sharks by exactly 18 points, so they will be determined to return to their best form in front of their home fans on Thursday night.

VERDICT:

Normally Manly would have all the momentum here, but the loss of Trbojevic is massive. As mentioned, the Sea Eagles have only won 33 per cent of games without Turbo over the last few years.

Newcastle were superb over the first two rounds, so if they can regain their mojo, they should be too strong – especially considering they’ve won their last three meetings against the Sea Eagles (Best Knights win H2H odds $1.78 with bet365.(
