Tigers vs Sea Eagles Preview and Prediction
The Tigers couldn’t have picked a worse time to run into Manly as the two sides prepare to face off on Anzac Day at Bankwest Stadium.
Having lost eight of their last nine games dating back to last season, the Tigers have come agonisingly close in their last two matches, falling by four points to the Cowboys and going down by the same margin in golden point last week against the Rabbitohs.
There’s always been two major criticisms of the Tigers over the last decade or so – they are wildly inconsistent and don’t have the class or discipline when push comes to shove and the going gets tight to carve out a win.
That’s certainly been the case over the last fortnight, with the Tigers now slipping to second-last on the ladder – below battling teams like the Broncos and Cowboys.
Meanwhile, Manly are starting to shoot up the ladder and are only one win off the top eight following back-to-back victories over the Warriors and Titans.
The Sea Eagles earned a dramatic 13-12 win in the finals seconds over the Warriors courtesy of a Daly Cherry-Evans field goal before Tom Trbojevic’s return inspired the side to a crushing 36-0 shut-out of the Titans last week.
Trbojevic made an enormous difference to Manly’s attack and nobody benefitted more than winger Reuben Garrick, who bagged himself a 22-point haul of two tries, five conversions and one penalty goal.
The Tigers have won five of the last six games between the teams, but Trbojevic’s presence largely cancels out that stat. Manly have won 75 per cent of their last 20 games with the star fullback in their team and they can extend that record against one of the NRL’s weaker sides on Sunday.
