North Queensland Cowboys vs Melbourne Storm Preview & Prediction
The Storm will be aiming to extend their dominant record over the Cowboys when the two teams square off in Townsville on Sunday.
Melbourne have won 12 of the last 13 meetings between the teams, although the Cowboys prevailed 36-6 in their last encounter in 2022.
North Queensland are enduring a tough season after making the preliminary finals last year, losing six of their last nine games and languishing in 16th spot on the ladder with a points differential of -90.
That terrible differential is mostly due to their embarrassing 66-18 loss to the Tigers a couple of weeks ago, but they did put in a more commendable effort in falling 24-16 on the road to Parramatta last week without their Origin stars.
Meanwhile, the Storm hold an equal share of the competition lead, but they’ve already had their two byes and their differential is much lower than that of the teams above them.
Craig Bellamy’s side have yet to really hit top gear all season, but they’ve won six of their last eight games, with their last three wins over the Warriors, Broncos and Dolphins all coming by exactly eight points.
VERDICT:
The Cowboys should put up a fight at home, but the Storm have started to get their best team back over the last month and appear to be building nicely.
Melbourne have dominated this fixture in recent times with 12 wins from the last 13 meetings. Going to back the Storm with Over 34.5 points, which has landed in five of their last six wins, while the Cowboys have seen Over 34.5 points in their last five defeats (Best Storm win & over 34.5 points odds $1.72 with bet365.)
