New Zealand Warriors vs North Queensland Cowboys Preview & Prediction
The Warriors and Cowboys lock horns for the second time in a month when they clash at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland on Saturday afternoon.
It was the Warriors who pulled off a big upset in Townsville back in Round 3, prevailing 26-12 on the back of a Shaun Johnson masterclass.
That victory was the start of a three-game winning streak for the Warriors, who followed it up with triumphs over the Bulldogs and Sharks, but they lost some momentum last week with a 34-24 defeat to the Knights.
The Warriors have suffered a big blow in the lead-up to this game, with Te Maire Martin and Wayne Egan out injured, with Dylan Walker and Freddy Lussick joining the spine.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys have been hugely disappointing to begin the season after reaching the preliminary finals last year.
North Queensland have lost four of their last five games, including a poor 32-22 defeat to the Dolphins at home last week on Good Friday.
Jeremiah Nanai and Murray Taulagi return in a big boost for the Cowboys, but their defence will need to improve if they are to turn the tables from Round 3, with the club conceding an average of 25 points per game.
VERDICT:
Tough game to predict, with the Warriors losing two key members of their spine, while they didn’t look too flash against the Knights last week. However, the Cowboys have been extremely poor and there’s no reason to think they are going to suddenly turn things around across the Tasman.
We’re going to back Over 42.5 points for our best bet. The Warriors have seen 58+ points in their last two games, while the Cowboys saw 54 points in their loss to the Dolphins. Five of the last six meetings have also produced Over 42.5 points (Best Over 42.5 total points odds $1.90 with Ladbrokes.)
