Parramatta Eels vs New Zealand Warriors Preview & Prediction
The Eels and Warriors are both locked on 22 points and looking to cement their top eight status as they prepare to do battle on Saturday night at CommBank Stadium.
Parramatta are one of the form teams in the competition, coming into this encounter on the back of a five-game winning streak, averaging 35 points per match and winning four of those outings by 13+ margins.
However, the Eels will be without Mitch Moses, Clint Gutherson and Reagan Campbell-Gillard for this game, with all three called up to the NSW Origin side.
Sean Russell moves to fullback, while Ryan Matterson slots into the halves alongside Daejarn Asi. The Eels are targeting their fifth straight win over the Warriors.
Meanwhile, the Warriors saw their three-game winning run snapped in emphatic fashion by the Rabbitohs last week, suffering a crushing 28-6 defeat at home.
It was a poor performance from the Warriors and a concerning defeat. There’s been a lot of talk on how much the Warriors have improved, but in my opinion, they haven’t been convincing at all, with those three wins coming against the Dolphins, Raiders and Dragons.
The previous week, the Warriors lost to an understrength Broncos side who were missing five Origin players. The Kiwi club are now tasked with a similar scenario here.
VERDICT
Tough game to call. Would be Eels all day with Moses and Gutherson, but those are two big outs. On the other hand, I don’t think the Warriors have been all that impressive in 2023, with the club losing four of their last five games vs top eight sides.
There’s also a decent chance Shaun Johnson misses this game to stay in New Zealand for the birth of his child. If Johnson doesn’t play, then the Eels look good value at CommBank as underdogs (Best Eels win H2H odds $2.25 with bet365.)
