Knights vs Broncos Preview & Prediction

The Broncos will be aiming to cement their spot inside the top eight when they travel to face the struggling Knights at McDonald Jones Stadium on Thursday night.

It’s been a tremendous last month or so for the Broncos after a slow start to the season, with Kevin Walters’ side coming into this clash on the back of a four-match winning streak that has lifted them to seventh spot on the ladder, ahead of heavyweight teams of last year in Souths and Manly.

Adam Reynolds has been the signing of the season so far, with the veteran halfback providing this young Broncos team with leadership and guidance, along with his immense talent and skill.

Reynolds’ kicking game has been superb, while he’s also been dangerous running the ball, scoring a try in three of his last four games.

Electric outside backs like Selwyn Cobbo, Kotoni Staggs, Herbie Farnworth and resurgent veteran Corey Oates have all flourished having Reynolds create for them, while Brisbane’s defence has also seen considerable improvement from recent seasons.

Indeed, the Broncos are the sixth-best defensive team in the NRL and the second-best when winning, conceding just seven points on average per victory.

Meanwhile, the Knights have struggled after winning their first two matches of the season and have lost seven of their last eight heading into this encounter.

Newcastle have lost their last three straight matches at home by a margin of 24 points or more, scoring just one try in the process. It doesn’t get much more dismal than that.

Attack is a big issue for the Knights, with the team scoring just 12.4 points per game. They were lucky to play the only team below them on the ladder last week, edging the Bulldogs 16-6 in arguably the worst game of the season.

Anthony Milford has been named to start his first game for the Knights after leaving the Broncos last season and seeing his contract at the Rabbitohs torn up before even playing a match.

VERDICT:

The Knights should be travelling better with the roster they have, but it’s just not clicking in the Hunter at the moment.

Brisbane have shot into sensational form over the last month on the back of some Reynolds brilliance and this is exactly the type of game they should be winning if they’re serious about making the eight.

We’ll back the Broncos to cover the -5.5 line as our best bet – something they’ve done in all six of their victories this season (Best Broncos -5.5 line odds $1.82 with bet365.)
