Broncos vs Knights Preview and Prediction

The Knights will be looking to keep their winning momentum rolling into the finals when they come up against the Broncos at Suncorp on Saturday afternoon.

Newcastle endured a rough middle part of the season after Mitch Pearce and Kalyn Ponga went down with injury, but since their dynamic attacking stars returned – and with Jake Clifford joining the club – they’ve improved considerably to have wrapped up seventh spot with a week to spare.

It hasn’t been the most convincing run of form, but the Knights have won their last five matches – and all of them have been by 1-12 margins.

As mentioned, they haven’t been blowing teams out of the water, but Newcastle have been workmanlike and have simply got the job done.

Meanwhile, the Broncos have also raised their level over the last couple of months, but the fact remains they have once again failed to win back-to-back matches this season and can’t finish higher than 14th.

Brisbane edged the Warriors by two points a fortnight ago, but couldn’t back it up last week as they went down 24-16 to the Sharks – but they were unlucky with some unfortunate sin bins throughout the contest.

Anthony Milford is finally showing glimpses of his best football, but the enigmatic five-eighth will be playing his final game for the Broncos here after signing for the Rabbitohs for 2022.

VERDICT:

Despite being assured of seventh spot, the Knights have resisted the urge to rest Pearce and Ponga, so we’ll be backing Newcastle to get a sixth win on the trot.

However, our best bet is under 49.5 points. Brisbane are also a decent chance of the upset given their recent form, while the last four meetings between the teams have produced under 49.5 points. Brisbane and Newcastle have also seen under that points total in their last four respective NRL matches (Best Under 49.5 points odds $1.90 with Ladbrokes).
