Newcastle Knights vs Cronulla Sharks Preview & Prediction

It promises to be a cracking encounter at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday as the Knights look to continue their remarkable run of form against the resurgent Sharks.

Not since Andrew Johns led the club to premiership glory in 2001 have the Knights won this many games in a row, with the team notching up seven on the bounce with last weeks 29-10 dispatch of the Rabbitohs.

Languishing in 14th spot on the ladder a couple of months ago, the Knights have surged into seventh and are on the cusp of securing finals footy.

Kalyn Ponga has arguably been the best player in the competition over the last month or so, while Bradman Best, Greg Marzhew and Dominic Young are running riot out wide.

Meanwhile, the Sharks look to have regrouped after a shaky period saw them lose three games on the trot throughout July.

Cronulla have since won three consecutive matches by double-digit margins, easing past the Rabbitohs, Titans and Cowboys.

The Sharks currently sit in fifth spot on the ladder and are waiting to pounce should the Storm slip up in a pursuit for a top four finish.

VERDICT

This one could really go either way. Newcastle have all the momentum and home ground advantage, but the Sharks have won the last three meetings between the teams and are back in form themselves.

Whatever happens, it should be a tight contest, so either team winning by a 1-12 margin appeals (Best Either Team 1-12 Margin odds $1.75 with bet365.)
