Knights vs Sharks Preview and Prediction

An intriguing game awaits in the Hunter on Friday night when the Knights play host to the Sharks.

Under normal circumstances, I’d be backing Cronulla to come out on top here. They consistently beat teams in the bottom eight but usually falter against the very best. With the Knights on a three-match losing streak and in 11th, this should be a game where the Sharks emerge victorious.

However, Cronulla are enduring a controversial week with news John Morris has coached his last game for the club, with Craig Fitzgibbon set to replace him in 2022.

In the meantime, Josh Hannay will take over interim duties for the remainder of 2021. Making the Sharks’ lead-in to the game even more disruptive is the fact both Wade Graham and Josh Dugan will miss the clash due to concussions sustained in last week’s loss to the Roosters.

With the players believed to be firmly on the side of Morris, it could leave the Sharks in tatters come kick off here.

Newcastle have been rocked by Mitchell Pearce’s injury and are coming off a heavy 42-16 loss to the Titans last week.

That defeat followed back-to-back losses at home to the Tigers and Dragons. The Knights will however take confidence from the fact they’ve defeated Cronulla in their last two meetings.

Newcastle also welcome back a trio of key figures in Bradman Best, Kurt Mann and Jacob Saifiti.

This is a 50-50 clash, but the Sharks have had an anything but ideal preparation, while a return home with some star players returning should see the Knights have the slight edge on Friday night.

Bradman Best, Kurt Mann and Jacob Saifiti all return for the Knights, while Brayden Musgrove will make his debut on the wing.

Wade Graham and Josh Dugan are out for the Sharks due to concussion, with Briton Nikora and Siosifa Talakai joining the side.
