Knights vs Eels Preview & Prediction

After slipping up against the Tigers last week, the Eels have another potential banana skin clash in front of them against another side on a big losing run in the Knights.

Parramatta had been putting together a good season highlighted by a golden point win over the Storm down at AAMI Park and a huge win over the Dragons, but they have stumbled over the last fortnight.

The Eels almost let the Titans back into their Round 5 clash, ultimately holding on for a 26-20 victory, but they couldn’t escape on Easter Monday, going down to the previously-winless Tigers 21-20.

Brad Arthur’s side never led throughout the entire contest and were out-enthused by an inspired Tigers side who were determined to snap their losing run.

Newcastle will have taken notice of that performance and will be looking to replicate that upset – and they will fancy themselves in front of their own fans despite having lost their last four games.

The Knights started the season with a bang, beating the Roosters and Tigers by 13+ margins, but they have since fallen to the Panthers, Sharks, Sea Eagles and Dragons.

However, the Knights are usually strong at home, winning six of their last seven such games – including a massive victory over the Tigers.

With Kalyn Ponga signing a lucrative new deal, he will be keen to justify his price tag, so look for the fullback to involve himself.

VERDICT:

The Eels remain pretty hold and cold – when they’re on, they can beat any team in the competition, but if they take their foot off the pedal they can also lose to anyone – as we saw last week.

Newcastle were impressive to start the season and if they can recapture that sort of form with Ponga leading the way and Adam Clune returning at halfback, they can put up a big fight at home (Best Knights +8.5 line odds $1.90 with Neds.)
