Rabbitohs vs Cowboys Preview and Prediction

Even without five Origin stars, the Rabbitohs are heavy favourites to ease past a Cowboys team on the slide when they square off at McDonald Jones Stadium on Friday night.

South Sydney are also boosted by Cody Walkers and Adam Reynolds being overlooked for NSW selection, with the two halves now turning their attention to ripping apart a Cowboys defence that leaked 38 points at this venue last week against the Knights.

North Queensland have propelled themselves into the top eight on the back of some strong home form, but they’ve been poor away from Townsville and their inability to win away games is certainly catching up with them now.

Indeed, the Cowboys have only won one match all season outside of Townsville, while they have lost five of their last six at McDonald Jones Stadium.

The Cowboys offered nothing last week in a 38-0 drubbing at the hands of Newcastle and there’s no reason to think much will change seven days later.

Souths have been excellent for the most part this season, beating every team they’ve faced below them on the ladder, losing only to the Storm and Panthers.

The Bunnies have scored 38 points or more in three of their last four wins and will be aiming to towel up this slumping Cowboys outfit.

VERDICT:

With Reynolds and Walker both starting for Souths, along with an in-form Alex Johnston out side, we feel the total points line of 47.5 is very low for this clash.

The Cowboys have conceded 28 points or more in their last four games, including 50 and 38 in their last two away matches, while the Rabbitohs have scored 38 or more in three of their last four, including 46 and 38 in their last two.

Souths have blitzed their last two games against bottom eight sides Brisbane and Wests Tigers and should be able to post another big score here (Best Rabbitohs win & over 47.5 points odds $2.10 with Ladbrokes).
