Sydney Roosters vs North Queensland Cowboys Preview & Prediction
The Roosters are aiming for three straight wins when they come up against the lowly Cowboys on Sunday at Suncorp.
It’s been a nightmare start to the season for the Cowboys – expectations were high after reaching the preliminary finals last year, but their level has dropped dramatically.
Defence was such a key part of their run to the preliminary finals last season, but whatever was working in 2022 has suddenly stopped.
The Cowboys are averaging 38 missed tackles per game, which is the worst in the competition. Last week, North Queensland lost 44-6 to the Sharks, which was also their biggest loss of the season.
To make matters worse, Jeremiah Nanai is suspended for four weeks and Tom Chester is out injured for the season. Chad Townsend is also in some doubt for this clash.
Meanwhile, the Roosters are starting to click after an average start to the campaign, winning their last two games against the Dragons and Warriors.
The Roosters managed to produce 14-0 shutout of the Warriors in torrential rain last week, with their goal-line defence especially impressive.
With the Cowboys struggling to score points, they could be in for another long afternoon if the Roosters are in the same mood here.
VERDICT:
The Roosters have dominated the Cowboys in recent seasons, winning the last five meetings between the teams – and all five have been by 13+ margins.
Those North Queensland teams were travelling a lot better than this current side, so the Roosters should be confident of another big victory in Magic Round (Best Roosters -11.5 line odds $1.90 with Ladbrokes.)
