Cowboys vs Roosters Preview & Prediction

It’s been a dream start to the season for the Cowboys – can they keep their momentum going when they host the Roosters on Saturday night?

North Queensland produced one of their best performances in recent years last week with a thumping 38-12 victory over the Broncos at Suncorp last week.

Rising star Jeremiah Nanai was the main man for the Cowboys, with the young back-rower scoring a hat-trick to make it four tries from his last two games. The teenager is suddenly one of the hottest properties in the game and he will be aiming to double down against one of the competition’s premier teams of the last decade on Saturday.

One of the most impressive aspects of the Cowboys’ form this season has been their defence – they’ve only conceded four tries in three games, keeping their opponents to single digits twice.

If Chad Townsend and Tom Dearden can repeat what they did against the Broncos, then the Cowboys are going to be an entertaining team to watch throughout 2022.

Meanwhile, the Roosters have surprisingly struggled to open the season, losing their opening game against the Knights, getting back on track against Manly, but also going down to the previously-winless Rabbitohs last week.

Despite Luke Keary returning from injury at halfback, the Roosters just haven’t been able to click in attack, while James Tedesco has also had minimal involvement.

With the team doing it tough, rookie five-eighth Sam Walker is also find it difficult to make an impact and is being pin-pointed as a defensive liability.

VERDICT:

The Roosters have dominated this match-up in recent times, winning the last three meetings by 13+ margins, but the form lines are completely different heading into this encounter.

North Queensland have been ridiculously impressive in defence, conceding just 24 points across their first three games, while they showed how dangerous they can be when their attack clicks into gear at the same time last week.

With the Roosters struggling to score points, we’re backing under 40.5 total points as our best bet (Best Under 40.5 total points odds $1.91 with bet365), while there’s some value in backing the Cowboys home in a tight, low-scoring affair.
