Cowboys vs Roosters Preview and Prediction

The Roosters have been in lacklustre form over the last few weeks, but they will hope to bounce back with a strong performance against the slumping Cowboys on Saturday in Townsville.

Injuries have hit the Roosters hard this season, but they’ve managed to lock down fifth spot on the ladder for the majority of the season and are still within touching distance of the top four, currently trailing the Eels by two points.

However, the Roosters have been poor in their last three matches, suffering big defeats to heavyweights Penrith and Melbourne, while they limped over the line 22-16 against the last-placed Bulldogs in Round 17.

James Tedesco and Angus Crichton return from Origin duty in a big boost for the Roosters as they target a third consecutive win over North Queensland.

The Cowboys found themselves in the top eight entering their bye week a month ago, but since then they’ve lost four matches in a row.

As a result, the Cowboys have slipped to 11th spot on the ladder and now have a lot of work to do in order to leap out from the chasing pack.

Defence has been a major issue for North Queensland, with the team leaking 160 points over their last four losses, including 46 to the Rabbitohs, 38 answered against the Knights and 50 vs Manly.

VERDICT:

Neither team is in good form, but we’ll back the Roosters to lift with the return of Tedesco.

The Cowboys have been woeful over the last month, and although they should improve at home, it will be a big ask for them to challenge a top side.

The Roosters have won the last two meetings between the teams by 13+ margins and we’re expecting them to extend that streak to three in this clash (Best Roosters 13+ odds $2.25 with Ladbrokes).
