Here are the latest happenings in the NRL at the end of round 27.
1. Eels Thump The Tigers 60-26
The dreaded wooden spoon was up for grabs in this match as the two worst teams in the NRL faced each other at Campbelltown Sports Stadium. It was a close contest over the first 20 minutes, with each time scoring two tries each. However, the Tigers crumbled in the second half as the Eels ran in seven tries in the second half!
2. Cowboys Upset The Bulldogs 44-6
The Bulldogs have been incredible at home this season, losing just one game. So, the local fans were expecting another big performance from the Doggies. However, the game quickly turned into a nightmare, with the Cowboys scoring five unanswered tries. It wasn’t until the 61st minute that the Bulldogs finally put some points on the board. By that stage, there was no chance for a comeback.
3. Panthers Too Good For The Titans 18-12
The Roosters were gunning for the Panthers, who needed a win to keep their 2nd position on the ladder. The Panthers were big favourites going into this clash at Penrith, but nobody told the Titans that. Gold Coast seized the lead in the 15 minutes thanks to a try and conversion by Jayden Campbell.
The Panthers wrestled back the lead in the 43-minute courtesy of a try from Dylan Edwards, and then Luke Garner scored a few minutes later. The local crowd was on edge after the Titan’s high-flying winger, Alofiana Khan-Pereira scored in the 68th minute, and Jayden Campbell nailed the conversion. However, the Panthers were able to hold onto the lead.
4. Knights Break The Dolphins’ Finals Dreams 14-6
All eyes were on the Knights for the Dolphins, as whoever won this game was guaranteed to secure the last spot in the finals. We were predicting a close one as the Knights had home-field advantage, but the Dolphins were coming off a great win against the Broncos.
The Knights showed incredible defence and kept the Dolphins and their high-octane attack scoreless until the 70th minute. Kalyn Ponga stepped up big time for Newcastle, orchestrating the attack like a maestro, slotting two conversions and a key penalty goal in the 53rd minute, which gave the Knights a three-score lead!
