Storm Way Too Good for Roosters 48-18
The Roosters knew they were up against it when they arrived in Melbourne on Friday night. Craig Bellamy’s side had looked unbeatable in the finals so far, but the Roosters were banking on their high-flying attack to get the job done.
The game got off to a wild start when Lindsay Collins took the opening hit up and ran straight into Nelson Asofa-Solomona’s shoulder. Collins left the game with a concussion, and Asofa-Solomona was sin-binned.
Angus Crichton was taken out while chasing a kick, resulting in a penalty. Joseph-Aukuso Sua’ali’i slotted the kick to give the Roosters the early lead. Then, a few minutes later, Daniel Tupou waltzed over the line for the game’s first try.
Unfortunately for Trent Robinson’s side, Melbourne completely took over the rest of the first half, scoring four unanswered tries and kicking three conversions. The Storm went into the half-time break up 22-6.
The Roosters mounted an impressive comeback, scoring two quick tries within 10 minutes of the second half, thanks in part to Ryan Papenhuyzen, who dropped a Luke Keary bomb, which was then scooped up by Nat Butcher.
However, all of the Storm’s stars stepped up to the plate and sealed the game. Jahrome Hughes scored a hat trick, and Ryan Papenhuyzen and Cameron Munster scored a double.
Panthers Leave Sharks in the Dust 26-6
The Panthers put the Sharks on notice early with a hard-hitting defence. William Kennedy was picked up by four Penrith players and dragged into touch. The Sharks then thought it would be a good idea to trip Isaah Yeo in front of the sticks, Cleary slotted the penalty to open the Panthers’ account.
The Sharks tied the game with a penalty kick from Nicholas Hynes, but then a few minutes later, Nathan Cleary kicked a masterful 40-20 on the 3rd tackle to give the Panthers the ball within the strike zone. Cleary then received the ball and threw a picture-perfect flat pass to Paul Alamoti, who burst through a hole and scored.
Sione Katoa then got the Sharks back in the game with an acrobatic finish in the corner in the 59th minute. However, the Panthers hit another level, and tries from Brian To’o, Paul Alamoti, and Liam Martin sealed the victory for Penrith!
