Papua New Guinea vs Fiji Preview & Prediction

Entertainment is guaranteed on Saturday night as Papua New Guinea and Fiji square off for the first time since 2019, with the two nations concluding a triple-header of Rugby League internationals.

PNG and Fiji will be locking horns for the first time since 2019. The Kumals have won eight of the 12 previous meetings between the nations, but Fiji prevailed 22-20 in their last clash. PNG did get the better of the Bati 26-14 when the teams last played in Campbelltown in 2018 and are a perfect 2-0 at the venue.

Papua New Guinea’s side are headlined by NRL stars Alex Johnston and Justin Olam, while David Mead will captain the side at centre, with Lachlan Lam playing halfback.

Johnston and Olam are two of the NRL’s best finishers and will be targets in the backline, with Johnston lining up at fullback for his third cap for the Kumuls.

Fiji are equipped with a powerful backline consisting of Maika Sivo, Mikaele Ravalawa, Semi Valemei and Waqa Blake, with Kevin Naiqama co-captaining the team at five-eighth.

Panthers star Viliame Kikau is the other co-captain as he plays his 12th Test match, while the Bati forward pack has more NRL experience with the likes of Tui Kamikamica and Taane Milne.

VERDICT:

It promises to be a cracking contest full of electric attack and massive hits in defence. It’s usually tough to predict these sorts of games, but the value certainly lies with PNG.

Papua New Guinea have won eight of the 12 previous meetings and covered the +10.5 line set for Saturday night in 10 of those games. With PNG 2-0 in Campbelltown, we like the Kumuls as outsiders here (Best PNG +10.5 line odds $1.91 with bet365.)
