Eels vs Dragons Preview & Prediction

The Eels will be out to snap a three-game losing run to the Dragons when the two sides square off at CommBank Stadium on Sunday night.

The Dragons managed to grab a rare away win over the Eels last season, but that result is against the grain, with Parramatta winning 25 of their 32 matches at the venue.

Furthermore, the Dragons have lost their last nine games as underdogs, highlighting their inability to match it with the competition’s best teams.

Parramatta are certainly in that conversation at their best – and that’s what they were last week when they knocked over the Storm in golden point down at AAMI Park.

Ray Stone was the two-try hero as he followed up Mitch Moses’ field goal that hit the post to score the match-winner – only to rupture his ACL in the process, which means he’s almost certainly played his last game for the club.

It was an important win for the Eels, who a week earlier lost in the final seconds to the Sharks. They will be looking for a more polished performance than their opening round home win over the Titans, where they leaked 28 points.

Meanwhile, the Dragons have lost two straight since an opening round win over the Warriors, pushing the Panthers in a close one before being blown off the park 36-12 by the Sharks last week.

The Dragons slipped back into old habits against their bitter rivals, with nobody stepping up to lead the team when the going got tough.

VERDICT:

The Eels are a different beast at Bankwest where they’ve lost just seven matches since the stadium opened back in 2019, while they’ve won six of their last eight home games against the Dragons.

St George Illawarra were poor last week, so expect the Eels to cruise to victory on the back of last week’s confidence-boosting win (Best Eels -9.5 line odds $1.91 with bet365.)
