Panthers vs Raiders Preview and Prediction
Penrith have made a flying start to the season and they will be looking to improve to a 5-0 record when they host the Raiders at the foot of the mountains on Friday night.
It would have been understandable if the Panthers went through a somewhat subdued start to the season after last year’s Grand Final disappointment, but Ivan Cleary’s side have picked up from where they left off and looking the goods to contend for the premiership again in 2021.
The Panthers have already avenged their Grand Final loss to Melbourne, prevailing in a 12-10 thriller a couple of weeks ago.
Penrith’s defence has been almost flawless, with the team conceding just three tries across the first four rounds, winning to nil over the Cowboys and Bulldogs and crushing Manly 46-6 last week.
Canberra meanwhile have been solid to start their campaign, winning three of their four matches – and it really should have been four if not for their spectacular collapse against the Warriors.
The Raiders made up for that defeat with an extremely solid defensive display against the Titans last week, emerging triumphant by a 20-4 scoreline.
It sets up what should be a cracking encounter on Friday night. Nathan Cleary and George Williams both have three try assists for the season and will be crucial to their respective team’s chances.
However, I can’t go past the Panthers. They’ve won 21 of their last 22 games and have barely conceded points this season. At home, they should be too strong again.
Panthers vs Raiders Teams
No changes to the Panthers team that demolished Manly by 40 points, while Joseph Tapine returns for the Raiders, pushing Dunamis Lui to the reserves.
