Canberra Raiders vs Penrith Panthers Preview & Prediction

The Panthers will be looking to return to the winners circle when they meet the struggling Raiders at GIO Stadium on Friday night.

Penrith have lost two of their three games this season, but still find themselves sitting in the top eight with a points differential, so it hasn’t been a bad start to their premiership defence all things considered.

Indeed, the Panthers’ two defeats have come by a single point, including last week’s 17-16 loss in golden point against the Eels.

With four straight wins over the Raiders by 13+ margins, this looms as the perfect match-up for Penrith to regain their mojo.

Canberra aren’t playing well to start the season either, winning just one of their four games and producing their worst performance of the year so far last week.

The Raiders were leading 14-8 over the undermanned Knights at half-time but went on to lose 24-14, failing to score a single point in the second half.

Ricky Stuart’s side also gave up a lead against the Dolphins a couple of weeks ago, with their second-half woes continuing to haunt them from last season.

VERDICT:

There’s nothing to suggest the Raiders are ready to take the scalp of the premiers, especially without the suspended Jack Wighton.

Penrith could easily be 3-0 to start the season and as mentioned, they’ve won their last four games against the Raiders by 13+ margins.

Going to back the Raiders to cover a -8.5 line with Under 48.5 points, which has also landed in the last four meetings (Best Panthers -8.5 line & Under 48.5 points odds $2.29 with Ladbrokes.)
