Knights vs Panthers Preview & Prediction

The Panthers look to maintain their six-point buffer at the top of the ladder when they face the Knights on Sunday afternoon.

Penrith are flying after securing the premiership last season and have 12 wins from 13 games to comfortably lead the Storm and Cowboys by six points.

Ivan Cleary’s side have won their last 10 games by 13+ margins and they will be relishing the chance to post another big score against the struggling Knights.

Penrith had six players feature in Origin on Wednesday night and the NSW stars will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing showing.

Meanwhile, the Knights have won two of their last three games to restore some confidence, but they were against the embattled Warriors and Bulldogs, so make of that as you will.

Newcastle were on fire to start the season with two wins over the Roosters and Tigers and they were matching it with Penrith in Round 3 until Mitch Barnett was sent off. From there, they went down by 18 points and lost their next six games.

Kalyn Ponga and Dane Gagai played starring roles for Queensland in their Origin upset over the Blues and have each been named to back up for Newcastle on Sunday.

VERDICT:

The Knights are winning games again, but it goes without saying this is a massive step up in class.

Penrith have been dominating all season, with their last 10 wins coming by 13+ margins. With the Knights having lost their last four home games by 24+ points, it’s looking like another long day at the office for Newcastle (Best Panthers 13+ margin odds $1.70 with bet365.)
