It’s a rematch of the competition opener as hosts England lock horns with Samoa for a place in the World Cup final on Saturday at the Emirates.

England ambushed Samoa in that aforementioned clash, registering a crushing 60-6 victory, with Dominic Young and Elliott Whitehead both scoring doubles.

However, Samoa coach Matt Parish always said his team was going to struggle in their first match, with eight Panthers players having a short turnaround from the Grand Final and ensuing celebrations.

Samoa have built their way nicely into the tournament and are coming off a superb 20-18 upset win over Tonga in the quarter-finals.

Teenage superstar Joseph Suaali’i was on fire in that game, running for 231 metres, making 10 tackle breaks, five tackle busts and a line break that set up the match-winning try.

England meanwhile have been untroubled throughout the World Cup and were dominant in a 46-6 triumph over Papua New Guinea in the quarter-finals.

But now they are under all the pressure, at home and having already conquered their opponents just a few weeks ago. Can England repeat that win when it actually matters?

VERDICT:

England deserve to be favourites, but all the value is with Samoa here. Matt Parish’s team have improved with each match and are now looking like the team that many picked as dark horses pre-tournament.

We’re going to back Samoa at the line as our best bet and wouldn’t be surprised if they pulled off the upset to reach a first World Cup final (Best Samoa +8.5 line odds $1.90 with Ladbrokes.)
