Papua New Guinea vs Wales Preview & Prediction
Papua New Guinea take on Wales in the last game of the Rugby League World Cup group stage on Monday night in Doncaster.
The Kumuls have been impressive so far during the World Cup, almost pulling off a big upset over Tonga in their opening game before going down 24-18, while they were solid in a 32-16 victory over the Cook Islands.
PNG play their own unique brand of footy, highlighted by powerful running and frequent second-phase play and they’ve been a joy to watch at the World Cup.
With a quarter-final clash against hosts England on the line, PNG will be looking for a big performance here to get themselves prepared for that showdown.
Meanwhile, Wales certainly haven’t been disgraced so far at the World Cup, going down in a close 18-12 loss to the Cook Islands before falling 32-6 to Tonga.
Wales won’t go down without a fight, but they ultimately they’re set to be overpowered by a rampant Kumuls pack, which will allow their outside backs to shine and pile on the points.
VERDICT:
PNG thrashed Wales at the last World Cup by 44 points and we can see the Kumuls delivering a similar statement here.
Wales have battled hard, but they will almost certainly be out of contention for the quarter-finals by kick-off, and regardless, the Kumuls are simply the far superior team here (Best PNG -26.5 line odds $1.90 with Ladbrokes.)
