Rabbitohs vs Knights Preview and Prediction
These two teams couldn’t be entering the finals in more contrasting fashion.
South Sydney absolutely obliterated the Roosters last week, piling on 60 points in one of the most dominant displays of the season, with Alex Johnston scoring five tries to propel himself to the top of the charts.
It was the Rabbitohs’ biggest ever win over the Roosters and proved once again that when they play their best, they can beat any side in the competition and are genuine premiership contenders.
With a 38-0 win over the Eels last month as well, the Rabbitohs are almost unstoppable at their best and when Cody Walker is in the mood.
That being said, they also lost to the lowly Bulldogs a fortnight ago, so consistency remains an issue. Suffice to say, they can’t afford any lapses in an elimination final.
Meanwhile, the Knights are playing in the finals for the first time since 2013, but it’s looking like it will be a short visit if last week is anything to go by.
Newcastle were comprehensively outplayed by the Titans, going down 36-6 in an extremely poor display that was reminiscent of their loss to the Warriors a few weeks earlier by the same scoreline.
That’s two 30-point defeats by teams outside the top eight in their last five games. Not exactly the ideal preparation coming into your first finals game in seven years.
The Knights have been erratic and inconsistent all season long and I can’t see them beating Souths on Sunday.
Newcastle’s away form has been atrocious and there’s no indication that it will change with a click of the fingers. Souths are riding a massive wave of momentum heading into this clash, and with four straight finals wins at ANZ Stadium under their belt, they should be far too good in this one.
