Rabbitohs vs Knights Preview and Prediction

South Sydney look to start building up another winning run when they host the out-of-form Knights in NRL Round 14 action on Saturday.

The Rabbitohs are sitting pretty in fourth spot on the ladder and have only suffered defeat at the hands of the Panthers and Storm this season. They leaked 50 points or more in their last two losses to last season’s grand finalists, but they have passed every test against all other opponents in 2021.

Wayne Bennett’s side bounced back strongly from their 56-12 defeat to Penrith by trouncing the Eels 38-20 in their last outing before the bye.

Alex Johnston played a starring role, making six line breaks and scoring three tries. The winger will be relishing the chance to face a weakened Knights side on Saturday.

Newcastle gave fans hope they’d turned a corner with a shock upset over in-form Manly a fortnight ago, but they fell back into old habits last week, suffering a crushing 40-4 loss to the Eels.

The Knights simply can’t be a consistent top eight side without Kalyn Ponga and Mitchell Pearce and they will be missing both of their most influential players again for this encounter.

Newcastle have leaked 36 points or more in their last four defeats, which doesn’t bode well for facing a Rabbitohs side that has scored 32 or more in their last four victories.

VERDICT:

These two sides are at opposite ends of the ladder and for good reason.

Souths have won 17 of their last 18 when favourites and that trend should continue here. With the Knights vulnerable in defence and the Rabbitohs lethal in attack, we can expect a big win for the Bunnies (Rabbitohs win & over 50.5 points best odds $2.15 with Ladbrokes).
