Tigers vs Rabbitohs Preview and Prediction
South Sydney are set for their fifth consecutive victory when they come up against a Tigers side who just leaked 34 points to the previously-winless Cowboys last week.
After starting the season with an eight-point defeat to reigning premiers Melbourne, the Rabbitohs have been in brilliant form, taking out the Sea Eagles, Roosters, Bulldogs and Broncos.
Their performance against the Roosters was their best of the season, but comfortable wins over the Bulldogs (38-0) and Broncos (35-6) also show they are taking care of business with ease. They are without doubt top four contenders and capable of beating anyone if they can peak when it matters most.
Latrell Mitchell is playing some of the best football of his career – he’s scored five tries in as many games and will be keen to add to that tally against the Tigers considering he’s crossed for six tries in seven games against the joint-venture side.
Alex Johnston has also scored five tries, while Cody Walker – who returns from suspension this week – has scored five from four games. There’s firepower all over the park and the Rabbitohs are set to rack up another big score on Saturday.
The Tigers just can’t get it right year after year. Try as he might, Michael Maguire – like many before him – is struggling to get his side playing consistent footy week in and week out. It goes without saying you won’t be playing finals football if you can’t put together consecutive weeks of good performances.
Paying tribute to the late Tommy Raudonikis last week at Leichhardt, the Tigers were woeful in the opening half against the Cowboys, and despite a second-half fightback, they couldn’t complete the job and were edged 34-30.
Conceding 34 points at Leichhardt to one of the competitions’s battlers doesn’t bode well for this clash against the NRL’s second-best attack. Souths will win this and should do it at a canter.
