Dragons vs Panthers Preview and Prediction

Penrith go in search of their fourth consecutive win over the Dragons when the two teams clash at Suncorp on Friday night.

The Panthers steadied the ship with a six-point victory over an in-form Roosters side last week – and with Nathan Cleary inching closer to a return, they should be at full-strength for the run into the finals.

With a big showdown coming up against the Rabbitohs next week – which could potentially decided who finishes runner-up and in the crucial second spot behind Melbourne – the Panthers will be determined to gain some more momentum here.

Matt Burton and Jarome Luai performed strongly in the win over the Roosters, so it will be interesting to see if Cleary makes his return this week or is saved for the Rabbitohs clash.

Meanwhile, the Dragons’ season is almost certainly over and it would take an enormous form reversal for them to make the finals with four games remaining.

The Dragons are on a four-match losing streak and haven’t won since Paul Vaughan’s infamous barbecue.

Anthony Griffin’s side have lost three of those games by 13+ margins and don’t look capable of challenging the Panthers – even if Cleary doesn’t play.

VERDICT:

The Panthers are a class above the Dragons in all aspects and even without Cleary, should be able to win this comfortably.

Penrith’s defence has been rock solid all season, so the Dragons are going to find it tough to score points. As a result, we like the Panthers winning relatively easily with minimal points scored (Best Panthers win & Under 50.5 points odds $2.20 with Sportsbet).
