Roosters vs Raiders Tips, Preview and Prediction
Twelve months after squaring off in the 2019 NRL Grand Final, the Roosters and Raiders collide once again – but this time, one team will be eliminated, with the winner progressing into a preliminary final showdown with Melbourne.
Two-time reigning premiers the Roosters have to defy history in order to claim a historic three-peat, with no team ever going on to win the premiership having conceded 50 or more points during the regular season.
Following their shock 60-8 loss to the Rabbitohs in Round 20, the Roosters produced a much-improved performance in Week 1 of the Finals, pushing minor premiers Penrith all the way before succumbing 29-28.
It was a case of what could have been for the Roosters after the Tricolours surged out to a 10-0 lead and were attacking with the chance to make it 16-0, but Penrith stormed back and ultimately held on for a close win.
Trent Robinson was fuming in the box, but it was a far betting showing from the Roosters and they will be confident of bouncing back at the SCG, where they have won 14 of their last 16 games.
However, the Raiders were one of those teams to beat them during that sequence, doing so 24-20 earlier this season in Round 10.
Canberra have been solid without being overly spectacular all season and now’s the time where Ricky Stuart will demand a lift from his troops, especially after their slow start against the Sharks last week.
Completing just 68 per cent of their sets, the Raiders need to improve with their discipline if they are to overcome the Roosters and keep their premiership dream alive.
Attack hasn’t been a problem for the Raiders, with the team scoring 30 or more points in six of their last eight matches, but the Roosters’ defence will prove much tougher to break through.
My biggest concern for the Roosters is a letdown from the Penrith defeat, which was easily one of the best games of the season. However, if they can produce a similar display, they should be winning this clash. Canberra will miss Josh Hodgson more than ever here, while they were far from convincing at home last week against the Sharks.
It should be close – the average margin in their last eight meetings has been 5.38 points – but the Roosters have won four of their last five and have the slight edge once again.

Jake Friend and Sonny Bill Williams have been named to return in a double boost for the Roosters, replacing Freddy Lussick and Nat Butcher.
