Raiders vs Roosters Preview & Prediction

The Roosters are trying to break back into the top four and the Raiders are attempting to bulldoze their way into the top eight for the first time since Round 3 when the two sides square off in the nation’s capital on Sunday.

It’s been a bit of an inconsistent season for the Roosters to date, but they’ve been playing their best football of the year over the last month, winning three of their last four games – including big victories over fellow top four contenders the Eels and Sharks – and losing only to reigning premiers Penrith.

Which is why it’s a shame the Origin period has started just as the Roosters were starting to find their groove and now they will have to contend with the loss of James Tedesco, Daniel Tupou and Lindsay Collins for this clash – although they should get Joseph Suaalii back on the wing.

Trent Robinson at least can keep his halves pairing of Luke Keary and Sam Walker and he will be relying on their growing combination to get his side over the line.

Canberra were also playing their best football of the season over the last month, but their momentum was squashed in an eight-point loss to the Eels last week, despite leading early in the second half.

Second half performances have long been the detriment of the Raiders over the last couple of years and they’ve yet to really get the monkey off their back in that regard.

The Raiders have also been impacted by Origin, losing two vital players in Jack Wighton and Josh Papalii, with Matt Frawley returning to the halves alongside Jamal Fogarty, who is still in the early days of his Canberra career.

VERDICT:

Both teams are missing key figures, but the Roosters still have their halves intact and plenty of strike out wide and through the middle.

The Roosters have also won six of the last eight meetings between the teams and if they can produce a strong defensive effort, it’s likely the Raiders won’t have enough points in them (Best Roosters win H2H odds $1.62 with bet365.)
