Sharks vs Roosters Preview & Prediction

Only two points separate the fourth-placed Sharks and seventh-placed Roosters as the two teams prepare to face off on Saturday night at PointsBet Stadium.

Cronulla have been entrenched in the top four of the bulk of the season, but they haven’t been operating at the peak of their powers over the last month or so and have seen a win-loss pattern since Round 5.

The Sharks suffered two disappointing defeats to the Broncos and Raiders at Suncorp Stadium and then edged out the Titans by seven points last week, so playing in Queensland has been a struggle.

That’s why Cronulla will be happy to be back at PointsBet Stadium, where they have remained unbeaten this season. However, they need to do something they haven’t done since 2017 if they are to preserve that record and that’s beat the Roosters.

Consistency has plagued the Roosters so far in 2022 – they’ve taken out numerous teams currently above them on the ladder, including the Cowboys, Broncos and Eels, but they’ve also lost to the Bulldogs and Dragons.

However, Trent Robinson knows timing is everything when it comes to winning the premiership and you certainly don’t get your hands on the trophy in May.

Robinson will be hoping Luke Keary and Sam Walker continue to improve their combination in the halves, while James Tedesco, Daniel Tupou and Joseph Suaalii can lay claim to being one of the most devastating back three’s at the moment.

The Roosters couldn’t back up their good win over the Eels in Magic Round last week, going down by 20 points to the Panthers, but this is a game that Robinson will be targeting in order to get some more belief back into his side.

VERDICT:

It’s a tough one to predict – the Sharks haven’t been that impressive since they went down in that big game to the Storm back in Round 6, while the Roosters continue to struggle with their consistency.

The Roosters were playing their best football of the season before running into the Panthers, so considering they’re underdogs despite having won their last six straight games against the Sharks, we’ll back the tricolours home (Best Roosters H2H Odds $2.05 with Ladbrokes.)
