Eels vs Roosters Preview & Prediction

Two premiership heavyweights who are further down the ladder than they’d like square off in a battle for two crucial points on Saturday night.

The Roosters are languishing in eighth spot on the ladder after a run of three defeats from their last four, while the Eels have slipped outside the top four on the back of their shocking loss to the Bulldogs.

Who will bounce back and return to the winners circle here?

The Roosters have been dominant in this H2H recently, winning six of the last seven games between the teams – including a 31-24 victory in Magic Round last month.

After crushing the Sharks by 20 points, it appeared as if the Roosters were about to go on a run, but they’ve since lost back-to-back matches against the Raiders and Storm by narrow margins.

However, the Roosters were missing their Origin players against Canberra and there’s never any harm in losing a tight game to Melbourne, so it’s certainly not panic stations yet.

But there might be cause for concern at Parramatta. Consistency continues to plague the Eels – they have proven they can beat the very best after conquering the Panthers and Storm away this season, but they’ve also produced atrocious performances to lose against last-placed teams like the Tigers and Bulldogs.

Parramatta’s 30-point loss to the Bulldogs on Monday was their lowest point of the last couple of seasons and it was the manner of defeat that will worry Brad Arthur. Can they turn it around in five days?

VERDICT:

It’s a tough match to call, with both teams desperate to get back to winning ways. The Eels are always better at CommBank, but their toothless display against the Dogs and poor record against the Roosters is worrying.

The Roosters haven’t been as bad as their run of three losses from their last four suggests and were always in the game last week against the Storm. After toppling the Eels just last month and winning six of the last seven meetings, the Roosters are good value as underdogs here (Best Roosters H2H win odds $2.10 with bet365.)
