A-League All Stars vs Barcelona Preview & Prediction

European heavyweights Barcelona, led by former club legend Xavi, are set to come down under and face our very own All Stars from the A-League on Wednesday night at Accor Stadium in front of a monster crowd.

The match will be played just two days after their La Liga campaign finished with a home 0-2 loss against Villarreal. So, you can predict a rotated squad to be selected, but the stars of the show still getting some minutes off the bench.

It was a rather unsuccessful season for Barcelona, finishing a mammoth 13 points behind champions and rivals Real Madrid. Nevertheless, they had a lot of fresh faces at the club and finished their back half of the campaign strongly.

The A-League All Stars will be led out onto the pitch by a pair of Englishman. Former Premier League and Western Sydney Wanderers midfielder Jack Rodwell is selected as captain, whilst former Manchester United and Sydney FC striker Dwight Yorke will coach the side.

It will be intriguing to see how much, if any game time the Western United and Melbourne City players get against Barcelona considering they face off in the A-League Grand Final at AAMI Park on Saturday night.

Considering that this is just an exhibition match and both national campaigns have just concluded, it will be a low pressure free-flowing contest as it has been in the past for the A-League All Stars.

The All Stars have played twice before against Manchester United and most recently Juventus in 2014. On both occasions the game saw at least five goals kicked. There is a lot of anticipation for this match, as you’d expect, with the A-League All Stars kit selling out in under 24 hours.

Barcelona are one of the strongest and most powerful football clubs in the world. So, you can still expect them to cruise past the All Stars despite not playing at 100%. It’s rather a spectacle to enjoy rather than support.
