It’s second up against third on Friday night as Melbourne City take on Western United in A-League Round 13 action.
City vs United kicks off at 7.30pm AEDT at AAMI Park. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports in Australia.
Both City and United will be determined to bounce back from disappointing last-start defeats when they play their first game of 2020 on Friday night.
City missed a huge opportunity to claim the scalp of competition leaders Sydney FC, but they were unable to take advantage of a 1-0 lead and an extra man after Rhyan Grant was sent off, crumbling to a 2-1 defeat and falling nine points behind in the title race as a result.
After losing by the same scoreline to Melbourne Victory a fortnight ago, City are trying to avoid three straight defeats for the first time since March 2018.
City do have fond memories of the last time they played United, with Jamie Maclaren firing a late goal to hand his 10-man side the win.
Meanwhile, United were humbled 3-1 by an on-fire Wellington outfit in their last match and will be desperate to get back to winning ways as soon as possible.
United have been up and down over the last month or so, but they will climb over City into second place on the ladder if they can take all three points on Friday night.
Alessandro Diamanti has been the main man for United and Mark Rudan will be hoping his playmaker has a big influence against City.
Both of these sides aren’t in great form despite their standings on the ladder. City are inconsistent as ever, while United are also unpredictable. I think City are in marginally better form, but this is a toss-up.
