A-League Round 22 Fixtures and Tips

Andrew Hendrie:

Melbourne Victory face a must-win ‘Big Blue’ against Sydney FC to keep their finals chances alive in A-League Round 22 action on Saturday.

It’s been a nightmare season for Victory, but they come into the game on the back of a 2-1 win over Adelaide last week, while runaway competition leaders Sydney suffered their second loss of the season to the Wanderers – and have a Champions League match mid-week. Six points adrift of the finals, can Victory make it back-to-back wins at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night?

Round 22 kicks off with a crucial clash at Suncorp Stadium as Brisbane Roar play host to Western Sydney Wanderers. Just two points separate the teams on the table, with the Wanderers having the chance to leapfrog Brisbane into a finals spot if they emerge triumphant.

The first game on Saturday sees Adelaide face off with Western United. Adelaide head into this showdown on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Victory, while United fired six goals past Central Coast on Sunday after failing to score a goal throughout the whole of February.

After receiving the bye last week, Wellington Phoenix are back in action as they look to cement their top four status against bottom-placed Central Coast Mariners. Phoenix sit in fourth and are on track for a top two finish, while it’s looking like another wooden-spoon for the Mariners after being demolished by United.

Round 22 concludes with a top three battle as Perth Glory and Melbourne City collide at HBF Park. The winner will claim second place on the ladder.

Newcastle Jets have the bye this week.
