Adelaide United vs Melbourne Victory Preview & Prediction
Recent history isn’t on Victory’s side in this match-up at Coopers Stadium against Adelaide, but I think Grant Brebnar’s side have the ability to conjure the upset on Saturday night.
Victory have only played one game so far this season, falling 3-1 to Brisbane Roar almost three weeks ago. They were extremely unlucky in that game – they dominated proceedings with slick attacking football, but they were made to pay for some poor concentration lapses from set pieces.
English winger Callum McManaman produced a fantastic debut and scored an incredible goal from outside the box, while former EPL striker Rudy Gestede has scored twice in recent friendlies and appears match-fit and ready for his first A-League start.
Marco Rojas has recovered from a hamstring injury, with Brebnar saying he has a full squad to choose from for this clash.
Meanwhile, Adelaide are reeling and face a swift turnaround from their 5-3 thumping out west to Perth Glory on Wednesday night.
Adelaide were comprehensively outplayed and the scoreline ultimately flattered them, with the Reds scoring twice in the last five minutes when the game was already put to bed, while they were also very fortunate to be down by just a single goal at half-time.
Victory, similarly to Perth, have an explosive attack and like to play free-flowing football. If they can tighten up at the back, they should be able to do some damage here – despite only scoring one goal in their last four visits to Coopers…
