Match Preview

It’s been a nightmare last couple of months for the Wanderers, with Markus Babbel’s side failing to win since conquering reigning premiers Sydney FC back in Round 3.

Western Sydney appeared to announce their premiership credentials with that performance, but they’ve fallen back into old habits and haven’t won since, coming into this showdown in eighth spot on the ladder.

However, such is the nature of the A-League, teams can go six matches without a victory and still be well in finals contention – and that’s the case with the Wanderers only one point outside the top six.

A couple of wins on the trot and suddenly the Wanderers are right back where they want to be – can they get some positive momentum going against the Reds on Friday?

Adelaide have been enjoying a better season so far, including defending their FFA Cup trophy, but they find themselves just three points ahead of the Wanderers after suffering a shock 1-0 loss to the Mariners last week.

With the opportunity to move into outright third on the ladder, Adelaide stumbled in Gosford and now must win this clash to ensure they remain in the top six over the weekend.

Adelaide don’t have a great record against the Wanderers at home, winning just one of their last six meetings. It’s a tough one to predict, but the Wanderers have lost their last four games on the road and will need significant improvement from their last two months if they are to prevail here.
