Match Preview
The season is over for the Mariners, but they still have their pride to play for as they attempt to snap a nine-match losing streak on Friday night.
It’s been another nightmare campaign for Central Coast, who after a promising start to the season, have gone winless over the last two months and are all but certain to pick up another wooden spoon.
A tenth straight defeat would equal their worst ever run in the A-League and the second-longest ever in the competition, with New Zealand Knights (11 in 2005) the only team to have lost more consecutive fixtures.
After going down 1-0 to Brisbane last week, the Mariners now trail 10th-placed Melbourne Victory by seven points heading into this encounter.
Meanwhile, City are sitting pretty in second spot on the ladder and have seemingly overcome their mid-season slump, coming into this clash on a three-match unbeaten run.
That streak has included wins over finals-bound sides Perth and Brisbane, while they drew 1-1 with a desperate Wanderers outfit last week.
This is a game City need to win comfortably if they want to be a genuine threat in the upcoming finals series, and if they can handle the behind-closed-doors aspect of this match, they should take all three points.
