After a near three-week break in the A-League, runaway competition leaders Sydney look to continue their devastating domestic form when they take on the struggling Mariners on Sunday night.

It’s been another dominant season from the Sky Blues – they have won 13 of their 15 A-League matches and have a record points tally of 40 points for this stage of the season.

With three games in hand over second-placed Melbourne City, Sydney currently hold a 10-point lead t the top of the table, which they can increase even more with another victory on the weekend.

One thing going against Sydney could be fatigue – they were outclassed and thumped 4-0 by Ange Postecoglou’s Yokohama outfit in the Champions League mid-week and face a short turnaround for this clash.

However, Central Coast have slipped back into old habits in 2020 and head into this encounter on the back of a five-match losing streak, which sees them anchoring the ladder.

There’s been encouraging moments for the Mariners this season, but ultimately they haven’t been up to the challenge and now appear likely to pick up another wooden spoon.

Central Coast have only won one of their last 16 games against Sydney and despite the long flight back from Tokyo, it’s unlikely the Sky Blues will slip up on Sunday. It might not be a beatdown, but it should still be a comfortable three points for the competition leaders.
